Synopsis/Details

The story is told through the bemused eyes of Turk, a sweet, gawky twenty-something cab driver who believes life is full of strange, unexplainable detours—and who may be right.
At the peak of a glittering New York fashion show, Angelique Aubert (28), a once-iconic supermodel now quietly slipping from relevance, collapses at the end of the runway. Revived backstage, she learns that the “break” she’s been dreaming of—time away from her abusive rock-star boyfriend Joey Bovee—has been hijacked by her manager, who’s booked her for yet another South Beach shoot. Another job. Another reminder that she’s being replaced.

After a volatile public breakup with Joey, Angelique flees New York for Miami—alone, exhausted, and painfully aware that despite her wealth and fame, she has no real home to land in.

When she arrives early for her shoot, Angelique discovers the unthinkable: the same beach setup, the same clients—only now the camera is focused on a younger model. Realizing she’s already been quietly phased out, Angelique bolts, abandoning everything. Her manager gives chase, but she vanishes into the back seat of a cab driven by Turk.

With no purse, no money, and no clear destination, Angelique is immediately misread by Turk as a high-end escort—a misunderstanding he finds more exciting than suspicious. He brings her back to the beachfront bachelor pad he shares with his tightly wound, hyper-practical brother Pete, who runs their scrappy cab company. Pete is instantly skeptical of Angelique’s story—and of her.

The misunderstanding deepens when Joey tracks Angelique down, triggering a wild I-95 car chase that ends with Angelique officially hiding out at the brothers’ house. As Turk falls hopelessly for her, Pete quietly investigates—snooping through her belongings and uncovering clues that suggest Angelique is far more than she claims. His covert mission nearly gets him killed, forcing Angelique to save him and cementing an uneasy alliance.

Angelique experiences something she hasn’t had in years: anonymity. With Turk as her guide, she spends sun-soaked days playing tourist, laughing, and rediscovering who she might be without cameras or contracts. But when Turk fails to show up for work, Pete explodes—firing his brother and kicking Angelique out.

On the road back to her hotel, Pete delivers one final insult—suggesting she just needs a makeover. Ironically, this detour leads them to Miss Millie, whose modeling school exposes Angelique’s true identity. The revelation flips everything: Pete’s cynicism softens, Turk’s awe deepens, and Angelique finally confronts the absurdity of the life she’s been running from.

At a chaotic night at the Miami Jai-Alai fronton, Joey reappears, igniting a brawl between the brothers. To escape him once and for all, Angelique and Turk concoct a desperate lie—claiming she’s pregnant with Turk’s child. The ruse works… barely.

In a bittersweet, Casablanca-salute farewell, Angelique boards a plane to France to reconnect with the family she abandoned long ago. Turk watches her go, heartbroken but changed.

In the end, everyone leaves the beach a little wiser, a little braver—everyone except Joey, who’s finally left behind where he belongs.
