Synopsis/Details
This is EP 10 of my original series - The Madman's Daily Unequivocal Comedy, which is my take on shows like Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone. A lot of the characters from the story are also a part of a previous episode - Marathon. This is a satire, in the same vein as Marathon. In Marathon, I used Joe, the chain-smoking marathon runner, to write a modern book of JOB type story. In Rinse and Repeat Part II, I follow this same path of absurdity and tried to write a story about what would happen if a homeless man inspired the homeless to form a church. Almost a modern fable paralleling the Jesus or other messianic stories. Both Marathon and Rinse and Repeat Part II are set in 1980s Atlantic City. I don't know if gentrification hit Atlantic City as hard as some other cities, but I am sure there are plenty of tragic stories about people being kicked out of their homes or falling victim to drugs/alcohol/gambling. This can happen in any city or town in America, as seen with the Opioid crisis. I also watched a YouTube video last week about homeless people living in an abandoned hotel near Atlantic City, which inspired me to set the homeless church in a long-abandoned hotel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PSihNXdnZQ&t=2s - check it out. if you are interested in things like this. Provides a pretty modern look at how Atlantic City operates. Great YouTube channel with tons of interesting videos from very nice people. Even though I wanted to write about corruption, political conmen, gentrification and other important topics, I still wanted to present this as unbiased and as mainly a work of satire. There may be some serious parts, but I try to balance the tragedy with the comedy...and vice versa. Sometimes comedy and tragedy are the same thing anyway.
