This Changes Everything
The man interviewing Gina Quinn for her dream job is someone from her past
whose impact on her future reaches far beyond being her new boss.
Even for true blue executive go-getters, interviewing for a job is rarely “fun.”
I mean, think of all the things which can go wrong! Maybe you’ll dress inappropriately as Gina Quinn quickly suspects she’s done when she arrives at Digby and Ryan’s Media Office.
Dressed to the nines in a pencil skirt and pointed-toe pumps shined 'til they gleam, Gina’s vying for the role of Creative Director. She’s a top tier candidate. And much like a video game, THIS is her final round…
So when she sees the workforce in jeans and khakis, Gina double-takes. Will she fit into the corporate culture? Maybe this was the wrong message to send?
Observing Gina’s distress, receptionist Anna winks:
ANNA
(whispers)
Listen, I’ve seen the other candidates...
(rolls eyes)
and the last guy who had the job...
(makes a gag face)
Don’t even get me started! My money is on you!
I’ll walk you down to the conference room.
Seconds later in the boardroom, friendly Anna further soothes Gina’s nerves.
ANNA
(chuckles)
Relax. You’ll be fine.
They’re really nice guys.
GINA
Truthfully, Anna,
I feel like I’m really overdressed.
ANNA
Kinda. But everyone overdresses for interviews.
You look amazing, so, channel it!
And when you get the job... jeggings!
Whew – that’s a relief. Theoretically, at least.
With such sage words of advice, Anna departs… leaving Gina to await the titular Digby and Ryan themselves.
Len Digby arrives first. A “Ted Danson” type, he’s dressed down, too. Oops.
The conversation starts formally enough. But – thank God – their personalities mesh. Especially after Len assures Gina she’s practically a cinch. AND he lets his movie fan-boy leanings slip (an interest Gina enthusiastically shares.)
LEN
So as you know, you are on our short list
for the Creative Director’s position.
And it’s a very short list now. You’re one of two
that passed all the tests to get to us guys
whose names are on the door.
If we flew you out here,
you are the best of the best.
But... there can only be one.
GINA
(smiles)
Like Highlander?
LEN
Yes! Exactly like Highlander!
Very good! You do realize if you didn’t get
that Highlander reference,
we might have to end this right now.
Yay – the chemistry’s clicking! Despite Gina’s wardrobe “malfunction”, things are looking up!!
Well, until Jeff Ryan enters. Tall. Chiseled. Early 40s. And an unexpected blast from the past.
Both Jeff and Gina freeze. Surprise, shock and embarrassment flash across their faces… so many emotions, rolled into one.
You see, Gina and Ryan met once before. Three years ago. A very different time.
In a bar.
Among other details, they were both drunk. And speaking of chemistry? That night… it sparked!
You think AVERAGE interviews are rough? Imagine yourself in the designer shoes of poor Gina, forced to navigate a career-changing opportunity – while some of her most intimate memories come flooding back.
Will Gina get the job? How’d that night conclude, all those years ago?
Read Christie Glascoe’s This Changes Everything to find out. Shootable on a modest budget, this little gem is a perfect showcase for actors who thrive on drama with the occasional endearing quip. Festival goers will love it, too – no matter how this interview of a lifetime ends!
