142
Walking through a park, a man finds a strange device with the number 142 on it,
and no one seems to know what it is until he finds out.
Suffice it to say, most of us have either been admonished while growing up to mind our own business and simply move on, or reprimanded another way...
In 142, writer Scott Nelson’s easy to shoot one page short invites us into a beautiful day in the park. Now, how many days have begun just like that for many of us, hmmm? But will it end on the same note?
While jogging, protagonist Jason spots a device on the ground. The distinguishing mark on its display: “142”. He repeatedly asks passersby if it’s theirs, but gets ignored.
So Jason makes direct contact with the gadget… and a transformation occurs!
So well-crafted for its size, 142 brings multiple questions to mind, including the inner motivations of the park-goers themselves. Why are they being so dismissive? And for Jason, will this ultimately be a case of curiosity killing the cat – or will getting involved bring a reward?
“What is creative living? Any life that is driven more strongly by curiosity than by fear.”
William Shakespeare
