Synopsis/Details
Max Marino is a Catholic priest, and by all accounts a good one. But he is a much better electric guitar player. Vow of Silence is a story about a man with two remarkable natural talents - can both abilities co-exist, or must he chose?
Max’s journey of self-discovery is full of pitfalls but along the way, he pulls two lives out of the ashes – even as he jeopardizes his position in the church - and his own life.
We see Max’s childhood through flashback; his striking, prodigious talent, the fierce violence of his father, the unwavering piety of his mother, the horrible tragedy of his family life as it speeds towards a single, catastrophic act that will permanently alter the course of his life.
In the present, Max is an able, handsome young priest at odds with a small-town church and it’s patriarch - each stuck somewhere in the 15th century, where music is unwelcome. Just as Max begins to rediscover his amazing musical gift, he must also use his ministerial skills to revive the lives of Janis, an attractive young junkie, and her boy, Sonny, both of whom are headed for a tragic destination that is horribly familiar.
As Janis begins to fall in love with Max, she unknowingly sets him up for a terrible fall; both at the hands of Father O’Riley, the senior priest, and her vicious husband who is searching for her and day and night. All the while, Max plays his guitar - as loud and often as he can. Until a conjunction of events put a final, grinding note on his impactful life.
