Synopsis/Details
London. 1940.
Maurice Houghton, a solicitor, receives an unexpected visit from Gwenda Brooke. Gwenda is the sister of Gregory, whom Maurice served with in the Great War. Gregory was killed during the conflict. Maurice never forgot Gregory in the intervening years of guilt and of surviving like others didn't
He barely recognizes Gwenda at first. Something troubles him as she relates the tale of her abusive marriage to Simeon.
There is something about her presence that uunnerves him.
Maurice finally understands when it is all too late.
