Synopsis/Details

On the morning of the first day of the Battle of the Somme, two childhood friends, Sam and Alex, officers in the Royal Welch Fusiliers, try to remain stoic with the enormity about what is to occur.
Sam is married to Sylvia, Alex's sister. His trepidation is hidden, as Alex's temperament seethes. They both know the plan of attack is flawed.
The last minutes they spend together leads to old memories resurfacing and how they will face death if it comes.
Sam, phlegmatic, has his own beliefs and assures Alex that they will never be separated and will meet again for a pint in The Mermaid's Tavern if all goes awry.

To create original stories has been my primary aim and I am always fascinated when the premise alters during writing and takes an unexpected turn. This usually results in a better outcome. There is so much that is left unsaid, with forgotten stories, that the field is never exhausted in whatever genre a writer specialises.
