Synopsis/Details
Desperate for stability, working-class James Pruitt and his daughter Cassie take live-in caretaking jobs at Sycamore Hollow, an elite wellness retreat run by the wealthy Marcus and Priya Ellroy. In exchange for maintaining the pristine, isolated property, they receive free housing in a secluded guest cottage.
The fragile peace fractures during an expensive weekend ayahuasca ceremony led by the unyielding Dr. Esteban Reyes. While quietly observing from their cottage window, James and Cassie witness a horrifying medical emergency: a guest named Miriam Chase violently collapses on the ground, seizing on her side as her body fails. Instead of saving her, Reyes executes a chilling cover-up. He places a cold, calculated call, summoning an unmarked white van. Two forgettable handlers arrive, aggressively erasing the crime scene and loading Miriam’s unresponsive body into the back. Hidden in the dark, Cassie secretly records forty-seven seconds of the terrifying extraction on a spare phone.
What follows is a tense psychological war of attrition. James, intimately familiar with local corruption, insists they play dumb to survive. Cassie, deeply shaken, hides Miriam’s forgotten blood pressure medication in the lost-and-found. Reyes grows deeply suspicious, circling the Pruitts with veiled threats and aggressive interrogations, implicitly warning them to maintain total compliance.
The stakes turn deadly when Miriam’s frantic daughter, Elena, tracks her mother's phone to the property. Risking their lives, Cassie reveals the gruesome truth by showing Elena the video, while James instructs her to flee the dangerous, heavily protected terrain immediately.
When Miriam's body is dumped two counties over—her death officially ruled as a cardiac arrest—James decides he will no longer be complicit in the violence. He pens a detailed, damning formal statement, drives through the pitch-black night, and mails it directly to the county sheriff. Yet, the corporate machine is relentless. The statement sits stagnant "under review". The horrific retreat reopens a mere six days later, with Reyes booking new ceremonies. Trapped in an inescapable cycle, the Pruitts remain isolated in their cottage, continuing to perform excellent, invisible work beneath the shadow of a lethal elite.
