The Adventures of Nicky Middle Grade novel series by Alessandra Nadudvari
Synopsis/Details
Welcome to the rugged coastline of Nova Scotia, where 12-year-old Nicolas Reed's summer vacation is about to transform into an extraordinary adventure that will challenge everything he thought he knew about history, friendship, and the thin line between destiny and choice. Nicky, a precocious aspiring journalist with a passion for history and science, arrives in Nova Scotia with his parents for what he expects to be a quiet summer. His father, a documentary filmmaker, is working on a project about shipbuilding, while his mother looks forward to exploring the quaint coastal towns. But from the moment they step into their rented house on Talon Island Road, Nicky senses that this summer will be anything but ordinary. In the attic of their temporary home, Nicky discovers an antique mirror with bizarre properties - reflections that don't quite match reality and a purple glow that seems to appear and disappear at will. His curiosity piqued, Nicky's investigative instincts kick into overdrive when he accidentally breaks an old trunk at Seaboyers' Emporium, revealing a hidden compartment that hints at secrets buried deep in the past. As Nicky begins to piece together clues, he finds himself drawn into a centuries-old mystery surrounding the legendary treasure of the Knights Templar. Local lore suggests that the Templars may have hidden their vast wealth on these very shores, and Nicky isn't the only one interested in uncovering the truth. Enter Chester Seaboyer, brother-in-law to the Emporium's owner Margaret, whose obsession with finding the Templar treasure borders on mania. Chester's reckless pursuit of the treasure not only threatens his family's livelihood but also puts him on a collision course with Nicky's investigation. Complicating matters is the arrival of Delilah, a fiercely independent skater girl with multicolored hair and a chip on her shoulder. Despite their rocky first encounter, Nicky finds himself drawn to Delilah's rebellious spirit and sharp wit. But Delilah carries secrets of her own - secrets that have attracted the attention of a dangerous group of criminals led by the menacing Jefe Muerto. As if contending with hidden treasures, mystical mirrors, and budding young love weren't enough, Nicky soon realizes that he's caught the attention of two mysterious ravens named Hugin and Munin. These eerily intelligent birds seem to be guiding events from behind the scenes, hinting at a destiny that Nicky never knew awaited him. With the help of his loyal feline companions and armed with his keen intellect, Nicky must navigate the treacherous waters of history and myth. He'll decipher cryptic clues left by the Templars, dodge Chester's increasingly desperate attempts to find the treasure, and protect Delilah from the encroaching danger of Jefe Muerto and his gang. As the summer unfolds, Nicky will learn that some mysteries are better left unsolved, that friendship can bloom in the most unlikely places, and that the greatest treasures often lie within ourselves. From the mist-shrouded coves of Peggy's Point to the bustling antique shops of coastal towns, Nicky's adventure will take him on a journey through time and legend, testing his courage, his heart, and his understanding of what truly matters in life.
