Sugar Del Rey is at the height of his NFL career. In the NFC championship game he simultaneously sets a league record and has his career ended by an irate opponent. During the end of his recovery, he is offered a shot at redemption and a chance to be in the spotlight once more through a walk-on tryout for a AAA baseball team. Sugar must learn not to take the good things in his life for granted while working toward a new career in Major League Baseball. Taking the Field is a story about redemption and appreciating friends and family.
