Synopsis/Details
Danny, in his late twenties, is riding his prized Kawasaki Ninja through Boston to his best friend Mike's birthday dinner when an unmarked, rain-slicked construction zone throws him into a ditch. An accident leaves him paralysed. Into his hospital room walks Professor Joseph Hart, a quiet researcher who has spent fifteen years running an experimental programme called Hope. Hart offers Danny something beyond the conventional. medicine: a neural interface that lets his mind inhabit a fully immersive world built entirely from
his own memories — a world where he walks, rides, and feels exactly as he did before the accident. He won't be alone there. Hart's compatibility system, built on thousands of data points and a fifteen-year unbroken track record, has already identified the one person suited to enter that world beside him. That person is Anna – a nurse who has worked Danny's floor for weeks, shifted, believed he could hear her, and said yes to Hart's proposal before he'd even finished explaining it. Inside the dream, Danny wakes in a Miami apartment, legs working, his ninja waiting at the kerb. He rides the causeway and rebuilds Mike's long-overdue birthday dinner exactly the way it should have happened and meets a woman named Anna on a South Beach morning with no memory that she's the same nurse from his ward. What follows is a real relationship built inside a constructed world: two people falling for each other while one of them carries a secret the other doesn't know about. doesn't know yet. As Danny's mind grows stronger and more anchored inside Hope, the people in his waking life refuse to let him go – Mike, who keeps the Ninja running in his garage every single day; and Anna, talking to an empty hospital room on faith. When Danny finally wakes for good, he walks out of Massachusetts General under his own strength – and finds Anna waiting for him outside, in her own clothes, in the daylight, completely real.
Hart confirms what his system found was never manufactured: Danny and Anna were always going to be exactly what the other needed. The program simply gave them a room to find it in. The film closes on Mike's birthday dinner finally happening — months late, in Boston, for real — with Danny back on the Ninja and Anna behind him, holding on.
