Synopsis/Details
Johnny, a young man in the mafia, is hours from vanishing into Witness Protection. Before he disappears forever, he insists on one last dinner with Samantha, the woman he loves — against the warnings of his handler, who reminds him that Don Scungili doesn't leave loose ends.
At an upscale restaurant secretly staked out by federal agents, Johnny loses his nerve. Rather than tell Samantha the truth, he stages a breakup, cruelly using her recent "I love you" as an excuse to push her away and spare her the pain of his disappearance.
Devastated, Samantha appears to break down — until she leans in for what looks like a whispered goodbye and instead delivers Don Scungili's real message: a silenced pistol pressed into Johnny's stomach. She was never the girl he thought he was protecting. She was the loose end being tied off.
As federal agents scramble too late to save their witness, Samantha slips away in a convincing display of heartbreak — leaving Johnny's staged breakup to become his actual, and final, story.
