Mystery Box (Thriller) - After he buys a Mystery Box on the net, a 20 something slacker finds himself and his longterm crush plunged into a web of mystery, danger and political intrigue.
A slacker with a penchant for action flicks and an unrequited crush, Berk Thomas thinks he’s hit it big when gal-pal Rachel agrees to hang out for a no-expectations evening of Netflix and chill. And to top it off, Berk’s just won a dark-web auction “Mystery Box”.
Unboxing it, a disappointed Berk finds a statue – kitschy, but Rachel thinks it’s cute. Cuter than him, unfortunately. After movie credits roll, Rachel heads home with the trinket – leaving a dejected Berk alone.
...until an unexpected mid-night break-in interrupts. The intruder’s armed and looking for the statue. Through a combination of dumb luck, desperation and Jock neighbor Jim, Berk survives… and the empty-handed burglar flees.
Leaving a disheveled Berk to ponder – maybe that statue’s special after all? Returning from a pawn shop appraisal with Rachel, the couple are intercepted outside Berk’s apartment by a man who claims to be an undercover cop. The ensuing trap leaving the statue smashed, innocent bystanders dead, and Rachel shot.
Discovering a micro-card in the shards, Berk soon finds himself alone again… and on the run.
What’s on the card? Far out of his league in more ways than one, can Berk solve the mystery and protect Rachel? Caught up in a web of international intrigue and cyber treachery, which way can Berk turn which won’t lead to death?
