Synopsis/Details
Daryl (mid-20s), a single, naive British man, decides to visit Las Vegas to spend some of his redundancy money on a week's fun in Sin City. Bad luck and even worse decisions cause him to question his morality. That morality comes back to bite him on the behind. Immediately after arriving at the hotel, Daryl makes a B-line to the casino. Within a couple of hours on the slot machines, his luck deserts him, and he has already made a sizeable dent in his resources. Instead of taking the loss on the chin, he tries to win his money back on the poker table. Seated next to a brash and very lucky, stereotypical Texan man called Jarrod (60s), he hopes his luck will rub off on him. Although the roulette wheel isn't lucky, a moment of fortune comes his way when an errant $1000 chip rolls into his diminishing stack. No one notices, and Daryl pockets the chip before leaving the table and going to his room. He feels guilty, but no one witnessed his crime, surely. After a sleep-deprived night and morning of moral dilemmas and jetlag, Daryl decides that if he sees Jarrod when he returns to the casino, he'll find a way of returning the chip to him, but if he isn't there, he will cash it in. Jarrod is nowhere to be seen, so Daryl cashes the chip in and leaves the hotel to explore Downtown Vegas. He returns in a better mood that evening, but his luck is still against him, and he swiftly loses all his ill-gotten gains. He decides to leave the casino floor, but Jarrod's booming and unwelcome voice calls him over to a poker table. The action follows a similar pattern to the previous evening, and Daryl eventually announces he's going to bed. However, before he does, Jarrod, who has taken a shine to the hapless Daryl, generously offers him his penthouse suite with all the facilities within, including the seductive Cherie (early-20s). The following morning, the booming voice of Jarrod wakes Daryl from his slumber in one of the penthouse bedrooms. He demands payment of $1,000 for his and Cherie's services. Daryl is perplexed, but Jarrod knew all along what happened to his casino chip, and now, without the money to pay him back and also without his passport, which Jarrod is holding, Daryl is forced to work off his debt for Jarrod's shady business interests until the Texan feels he has done enough.
