This story touches on Deafness, ASL(American Sign Language) and Deaf Culture in a way that is intriguing and interesting for the hearing and respected by the Deaf. Short summary, Alex (16), socially awkward but athletic and good looking is smitten by MICHELLE (16), recluse and avoids people by having her nose in a book every chance she gets. Before Alex can muster the courage to introduce himself social gatherings becomes illegal. The possibility of them meeting impossible. A year later restrictions are relaxed. BRANDON (17), Alex's best bud and BECKY (17), sister to Michelle secretly arrange for Michelle and Alex to meet at a pool where Alex is a life guard. When Alex notices Michelle he knows this is his chance. On his next break he will make his move. While in the pool Michelle almost drowns. Alex saves her but Michelle is frightened and rushed from the scene before Alex can come to grips with the situation. Unknown to Alex during the last year Michelle was affected by a virus in a life altering situation that left her deaf. Realizing what had happened Alex blames Brandon for not telling him Michelle had lost her hearing and that she almost drowned because of it. Michelle turns the tables and contacts Alex. Alex does not waste another moment and romance ensues. Michelle and Alex bond facing Michell's new reality. Michelle receives an offer for higher education (Gallaudet) and induction into a Deaf society that leaves the love birds separated. During Michelle's first week of university she is attacked off campus. Michelle wonders the streets unable to find help.
