Synopsis/Details
Rebecca Turner is an attractive woman in her 30’s, who has had moderate success with a string of mystery novels. However, Rebecca is dealing with a few inner demons, namely alcohol and prescription drugs, causing her to lose her literary agent. To jumpstart her career, Rebecca moves into a rundown apartment complex to work on a new novel. The building is managed by an eccentric, elderly woman named Helen, who is constantly smoking pot to help treat her glaucoma. Upon Rebecca’s arrival, she meets Michael, 20’s, outside the complex. Michael makes his living as a hustler, only Rebecca doesn’t know this… just yet. Rebecca is intimidated by Michael’s smoldering good-looks and cockiness, but at another chance encounter, Rebecca learns Michael’s back history. Abandoned by his parents at a young age, Michael moved from foster home to foster home, until he was old enough to move out on his own. Eventually, Michael moves in with Rebecca, who mirrors their relationship with the couple she’s writing about in her new mystery novel. At first, Rebecca is happier than she’s been in a long time. She stays up late writing and waiting for Michael to return home from his bartending job, unaware that he’s having sex with other women for money to support his drug addiction. What’s more, unbeknownst to Rebecca, miniscule camera lenses are planted in the ceilings of her apartment, capturing her every move. One night, after consuming too much wine, Rebecca lies passed out on the living room sofa as Michael creeps in. He undresses en route to the bathroom, leaving his cell phone on the dining room table. The sound of the shower awakens Rebecca, who later scrolls through an ongoing list of texts from other women on Michael’s cell phone. She also discovers drugs in Michael’s jacket, when Michael, draped in a bath towel, catches Rebecca. An argument ensues, as Michael returns to the bathroom. In a rage of fury, Rebecca grabs the fireplace poker and then enters the bathroom to kill Michael… That’s when the nightmares begin. Whether she blacked-out or erased it from her mind, Rebecca has no recollection of killing Michael, yet she is continually haunted by Michael’s zombie-like ghost, accusing her of killing him… Or possibly, herself. To add to her madness, Rebecca is visited by another apparition. Her name is Amanda, a woman in her 20’s with haunting blue eyes, who Rebecca discovers used to live in the apartment. When Rebecca confronts Helen what happened to Amanda, Helen remains mute. Rebecca finally meets Ben, 40’s, a guy’s guy, who lives across the hall from her. Ben is a professor, who teaches courses on “death and dying” at a city college. Rebecca conveys to Ben her nightmares about Michael, but doesn’t reveal that she might’ve killed him. When Ben tells Rebecca that the devil disguises himself in different shapes and forms, Rebecca thinks Michael’s demonic apparitions could be that of the devil. Sympathetic to Rebecca’s fragile state, Ben gives her sedatives and herbal tea to help her sleep, however, Rebecca’s nightmares only intensify, as do the footsteps in the upstairs apartment. On a rainy night, all power goes out in the building. Amanda’s ghost lures Rebecca to the upstairs apartment, where Rebecca discovers the answers to her madness. Did she kill Michael? Or did a satanic being residing above her kill everyone in the building, including her? “Kill Me, Kill Yourself” is an edge-of-your-seat, psychological horror movie reminiscent of “The Sixth Sense,” meets “Gaslight,” meets “American Horror Story.”
