Synopsis/Details
When a narcissistic self-help guru takes over a hotline for people with homicidal urges, the apathetic counselors — masters of doing as little as humanly possible — must suddenly start doing their jobs, or risk losing the only workplace dysfunctional enough to tolerate them.
Set in a crisis center that’s more toxic than the people it serves, Homicide Hotline blends the biting workplace chaos of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia with the satirical edge of Barry. It’s a fearless, character-driven dark comedy that finds the humor, and humanity, in the absurd.
The pilot, which received a “Consider” rating from Stage 32 script coverage, introduces a diverse ensemble of quirky, deeply flawed employees, each with their own traumas and questionable coping strategies. As they bungle their way through high-stakes calls, the show takes aim at toxic workplace culture, the self-help industry, and our flawed ways of helping each other — often with disastrous results.
