Eight high school friends arrive at Hollow Lake for a graduation weekend none of them will survive unchanged. And something four hundred feet below the surface has been waiting — patiently, deliberately — for exactly this group of people.
Among them is NORA VOSS — new to town, perfectly composed, and not here for graduation. She is the half-sister of DANNY MORRISON, a seventeen-year-old who vanished on this lake three years ago. But Danny didn’t disappear. He was killed on the access road by a drunk driver, and four members of this friend group put his body in the water and drove home in silence. Nora has spent three years infiltrating their lives, waiting for the right moment — and the right place — to make them say it out loud.
The lake, it turns out, has been waiting for the same thing. The Hollower — an ancient entity drawn to guilt the way a current is drawn to low ground — begins circling the houseboat the moment they arrive. It leaves marks. It grabs hands. It pulls people into the water in the night. When BECCA, the most innocent person on the boat, is found dead on the boarding platform, the horror becomes undeniable: the Hollower doesn’t only take the guilty. It takes everyone in the air around them.
As the body count rises and escape becomes impossible, Nora’s plan collides with the supernatural. She never counted on the lake doing her work for her — and doing it without discrimination. With CAITLIN gone and the remaining group cornered, Nora forces the confession she came for: DEREK, the driver. MAX, LUKE, and Caitlin — all in the car, all three years silent. In the most devastating moment, TY MORRISON hears exactly what happened to his brother from the people he trusted most.
The Hollower, satisfied or simply done, releases Danny’s body from the lake. Three years of dark water, finally opened.
But Nora isn’t finished. In the film’s final image, she swims back out to the houseboat alone and dives into the green light.
