Synopsis/Details
GETTING OFF'D Dark comedy/crime webseries, six 10-15 minute episodes, could easily be expanded to 1/2-hour TV format LOGLINE An ex-stuntman turned private investigator arranges fake deaths for porn stars who want to leave the business. WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? At its heart, this is a story about the rise and fall... and fall... and fall of Paul "One Ball" Snyder, a man who never thought to seek redemption but finds it nonetheless, through actions he never expected himself capable. In other words, he unwittingly stumbles into doing something good for people other than himself. He's failed at everything, and now he is succeeding. Does he care that he's improving the lives of others? Probably not, he is simply excited that he's needed, even admired. The money doesn't hurt. It's also about the difference between how men and women are perceived by the public after a career in the adult entertainment business. Men can seemingly disappear and still have a career outside the business, while women need to escape the stigma that remains long after they leave porn. Sounds socially relevant, right? Ha! Sure it does, but at the end of the day, it's about Paul and the many humiliating things he's done to be loved. Much of the series details Paul's past career: his attempts at being a tennis pro, celebrity hairdresser (after watching Shampoo), Hollywood stuntman, inept porn star, and finally, private investigator. His turn as detective is due mainly to his love of crime-noir films and less about a need to help people. If he gets to peak into someone's dirty laundry, even better. He is simultaneously bitter and proud about his porn career, going so far as to feature movie posters in his office and constantly reminisce to the editor of his memoirs, all from his unreliable memory that mixes up the events and people who've run through his life. What he is unable to comprehend is how much good he's doing for the porn stars. Helping to rescue them from a past that is better forgotten for some. Eventually, he learns how to accept and forget his own past failures in order to move on and live a better life. And dick jokes! MAIN CHARACTERS PAUL "One Ball" SNYDER (40s) - Jagoff-of-all-trades, master on none, ex-stuntman, -hairdresser, -tennis pro, -porn actor, now private investigator who's been chewed up and spit out by the movie business. A lucrative side-hustle falls into his lap. Will he pull it off, or will it prematurely blow up in his face like a low-stamina extra in an orgy scene? His stuntman career ended when a fall on the set of T.J. Hooker went wrong, leaving him with only one testicle. He himself reached the lowest of depths when the only way he could make ends meet was by becoming a novelty porn actor named ONE BALL PAUL. MERNA CLEMMONS (30s) AKA Greta Gobbler, retired porn star, receptionist/Girl Friday at Paul's office. EDDIE PECKER (50s) - Freelance photographer, works as a stringer for various tabloids. VERONICA VAN ROOS (30s) - Paul's ex-wife, P.A. on the set of Paul's first porn film, now an assistant D.A. for Los Angeles county. DIANE (30s) - Paul's memoir editor. GEORGE VANDERSNATCH (60s) - Paul's longtime talent agent, does his best to keep Paul's career afloat even after his retirement from the porn biz. Other recurring characters include: SISIE LAFERVE (30s) - AKA Peggy Legg, ex-porn star, worked closely with Paul on a few films. BERNADETTE LAVASH (30s) - AKA Chrystal Shandeleer, ex-porn star. JESUS AL (50s) - Host of an advice show on WNRK radio in Los Angeles SANDRA (40s) - DJ at WNRK, host of "Mistress Midnight Hour". BILL ISLAND (40s) - Private investigator, believes a serial killer is murdering porn stars, sets his sights on Paul. SERIES OVERVIEW Season One would concern Paul's transition from out-of-work actor to struggling private investigator and the ex-porn stars who seek his help in wiping their presence from the business. His first faked deaths, communications with his memoir editor, and eventual clash with Bill Island who believes the deaths are real and the work of a serial killer. Season Two would concern the continued investigation into Paul's involvement in the "deaths" of porn stars, his disastrous return to porn that leads to a botched attempt to fake his own porn death, putting him in a coma at the end of the season. Season Three would concern Paul's recovery when he awakes to find his body has been used in porn films due to a clause in his contract, arranged by his agent. Each episode reveals one of the films he made while still in a coma, and new fake deaths for retiring porn stars. At the end of the season, one such star appears to actually die! Season Four would concern the aftermath of the porn star's death, and that it may have been staged to exact revenge on Paul for something he did in his past. Paul teams up with Bill Island to discover what's going on as police close in on him.
