The BBC light-comedy murder-mystery series Father Brown
Synopsis/Details
This is my 5th spec-script for the BBC light-comedy murder-mystery series, Father Brown. Because this is a BBC series in the UK, I've used the British spelling for some words, as well as some idioms/phrases that are more used in the UK than they are in the U.S. This is also continuing a substory/character arc thread that I introduced in my first Father Brown spec, "The Dark Lantern" (also posted on my profile, along with my other Father Brown specs) and continued to develop throughout my other specs as well (which I explain the details of in the "Previously On" summary page just after the title/character-list page); my aim is to demonstrate to the producers of Father Brown that I have a firm grasp of the style, tone & good ear for the character voices on the show and that I can write a sustained substory/character arc storyline as well as come up with new and different stand-alone murder-plots for each different story/episode, since my writing-gig goal is to become a regular writer for the show. The second of my Father Brown specs, "The Wrong Scone", has already won 2nd place in the One-Hour Drama category of Scriptapalooza's TV writing competition, so I hope to prove that I'm more than capable with my other specs for it as well, including this one!
All Accolades & Coverage

All of my readers have told me that my Father Brown spec-scripts sound just like actual episodes of the show itself, and that I've done a great job mimicking the style/tone and have a good ear for the character's voices. My second FB spec, "The Wrong Scone", won Scriptapalooza's TV Writing competition in 2021 and is in the Top 3% of Coverfly's Downloadable projects.

The Writer: Karen Simmons

I have worked as both a Production Assistant and Story Assistant on various television show productions, while also working on my own tv spec scripts over the years. I've also been ghost-writing for my husband, Eddie Pepitone, who is a stand-up comedian/actor, having written many jokes, online videos, sketches, co-written on his one-man stage shows, and wrote an award-winning mockumentary short film that he starred in called "Runyon: Just Above Sunset" (which won Best in Show at the L.A. "Mockfest" film festival in 2011, among other awards). I was part of a writer's room for the David Feldman Comedy podcast (a sort of cross between "SCTV" and Garrison Keillor's "Prairie Home Companion") for… Go to bio
