Synopsis/Details
With Devil's Due, I'm looking for a creative partner (director/producer) to shoot this script as a proof-of-concept for a larger western/horror series that we would pitch together.
SCRIPT BASICS: This simple Western with light horror elements is shoot-ready. Locations include interior/exterior saloon shots, two separate bedroom locations, and a nighttime campsite setup. The main cast includes two 30s males and two older males. In addition, the interior saloon scene includes a host of extras to fill out the atmosphere.
***spoilers ahead***
PRODUCTION NOTES: Much of the fun of the script comes from the actions of a large snake, so some effects work will be likely, both practical and digital. Though the project could be animated (to great effect), I'm looking at it more as a live-action project. That said, I'm open to being convinced otherwise!
THE POTENTIAL SERIES: The larger project will build on the foundations laid within this short, exploring supernatural elements within the world of a typical Western setting. We'll build out the main character (Walt) as a nomadic gambler with a newfound belief in the supernatural. We'll create this opening by introducing a twist not evident in the short: Walt is not dead. Having seen the devil with his own eyes, Walt now realizes there are supernatural elements throughout the world...including in each new town he visits. We'll also pull connecting threads through the storylines as Walt explores his past and how it influences his new reality--deeds done wrong years ago come back to haunt him, etc. Of course, we'll also occasionally revisit our friend The Preacher, as Walt regularly interferes with the old man's plans, allowing us to maintain a core cast of characters for the audience to love and despise.
