Synopsis/Details

While this story is fiction, I might have had something to do with the protagonist’s personality. I might have worked 23 years in pro kitchens. I might have been a bit of a tyrant. I might have been cunning, funny, cheeky, encouraging or cold as ice to many a young person. I might have put mechanisms in place to defend myself from the endless unwanted advances in a hot and sweaty environment working under extreme pressure and exhaustion surrounded by men.

I might have yelled a little bit. I might have played a few pranks. I might have used trickery. But there was also patience, teaching, learning, advising, understanding and occasionally love. Be it romantic, friendly or as a mentor.

This is not a romance set against a pro kitchen background written by an industry outsider dreaming up what it all might or could look like. It’s a warts and all glimpse into the lifestyle of the actual hardworking teams that serve you every night and day in a tumultuous – all hours of the night – insane, crazy industry.

85% of restaurants go under in the first two years. What does it take to survive and thrive? Come with me, I'll show you.

The Writer: Genevieve Knights

I am a screenwriter from Auckland New Zealand who writes across genres. I aim for a stupendous ending and have always penned this before starting. Or it is at least written in my head. As a chef myself my first screenplay was a hospitality drama. I also write children’s fantasy, historical dramas and psychological thrillers. There is something for every budget so light up my message box! I want to hear from you. x Go to bio
