Synopsis/Details

High above the rugged beauty of northeastern Arizona, a turkey vulture soars on outstretched wings, a silent witness to the tragedy unfolding below. Two Native American women, Katrina and Talulah, drive through a small reservation town. Talulah sports a badly concealed bruise on her face – evidence of an abusive relationship. As they debate whether Talulah should leave her boyfriend, disaster strikes. A drunk driver in a pickup truck blows through a stop sign, obliterating their car and killing Talulah instantly.

Katrina barely survives. In the hospital, her family gathers, including her grandmother Awena, a repository of ancient tribal wisdom. While they form a prayer circle, Katrina's spirit begins ascending toward a golden light, but Awena's powerful chanting pulls her back to Earth.

Four months later, Katrina struggles through physical therapy. Her therapist Miguel convinces her to take prescription painkillers despite her reluctance, citing the opioid crisis on the reservation. It marks the beginning of her descent into addiction.

Meanwhile, in Tucson, the massive drug operation that will eventually ensnare Katrina thrives. Santiago Reyes and Jimmy Two-Feathers work for a cartel, extracting bags of white powder from children's dolls. Their boss, Escorpión, a vicious young man with a black scorpion tattoo on his neck, oversees an elaborate operation producing counterfeit pills stamped with black scorpions.

As Katrina's physical recovery progresses, so does her dependence on painkillers. She graduates from legitimate prescriptions to stronger doses, her journey mirroring the cartel's distribution chain – the pills moving from production to street dealers and eventually to users like her.

When Katrina leaves the hospital, Awena takes her to Talulah's grave. Back home, Katrina's addiction worsens. She steals her grandmother's vinyl record collection to pawn for drug money, and with a new friend named Star, ventures into a sketchy part of town to buy pills from a dealer. A violent shootout erupts, leaving the dealer and two rival pushers dead. In the chaos, Katrina takes blue pills stamped with black scorpions – counterfeit fentanyl. She overdoses in an alley, but paramedics revive her with Narcan.

Awena, determined to save her granddaughter, takes Katrina to a vortex at Cathedral Rock in Sedona, where she performs a healing ritual. During the ceremony, Katrina has a vision directing her to Santa Barbara, California. Following this mystical guidance, they meet Dr. Marty Wuttke and his wife Dr. Stella, neuroscience specialists who use alternative healing methods to treat addiction. Through sound therapy, neurofeedback, and meditation, Katrina begins to heal.

While Katrina rebuilds her life, turmoil brews within the cartel. El Lobo, Escorpión's father, dies in the hospital. The moment he becomes the new boss, Escorpión orders the deaths of all non-Mexican cartel members, including Santiago and Jimmy Two-Feathers. Warned by Eduardo, they flee in a van filled with cartel cash. During a harrowing chase and shootout, Santiago is killed, but Jimmy escapes with the money.

After completing her treatment in Santa Barbara, Katrina returns to the reservation with hopes of establishing an addiction treatment program. The tribal council cites lack of funds, but promises to try to find resources. She reconnects with Jay Haskie, a tribal police officer and former Army Ranger.

Working as a waitress at a truck stop diner, Katrina is surprised by a visit from her childhood friend Jimmy Two-Feathers, who secretly gives her a hand-drawn map. When she follows it, she discovers the cartel van hidden in the remote canyons of the Four Corners region, filled with bricks of cash.

Meanwhile, Escorpión's men brutally search for Santiago, Jimmy, and the missing money. They terrorize Santiago's parents and begin scouting the reservation where Jimmy grew up. When cartel members arrive at Jimmy's mother's old house, Jay Haskie confronts them, escalating tensions.

As Katrina contemplates what to do with the money, she seeks guidance from her estranged grandfather Alvin, a former DEA agent who lives as a recluse. He warns that the money is tainted by evil but suggests a powerful medicine man named Zod Blackhawk might be able to cleanse its negative energy.

Through mysterious means, Zod appears just as Katrina needs him. Together, they perform an elaborate ritual over the hidden van and its cargo, attempting to transform the drug money's dark energy into a force for good.

The cartel tracks Katrina down and kidnaps Awena, threatening to torture and kill her unless Katrina returns the money. In desperation, Katrina turns to Jay Haskie, who rallies the tribe to rescue Awena. Even Alvin emerges from hiding to join the fight.

In a night of brutal violence illuminated by emergency lights, tribal warriors armed with modern weapons and traditional bows and arrows storm the cartel warehouse. They rescue Awena and kill many cartel members, including Escorpión, who dies when a grenade is tossed through a hole in his office wall.

Eight months later, the tribe celebrates the opening of "Talulah's Order of Light Rehab Center," funded by the cleansed cartel money. As Katrina cuts the ribbon, she looks to the sky where a turkey vulture – the same witness that opened our story – soars overhead. "We did it, T," she whispers to her departed friend, completing her journey from victim to healer, from addict to savior.
