Hi all. Seasoned screenwriters know how difficult it is to find an agent... God knows how many times you have been rejected for being unsolicited for not having an agent in the first place... I mean, what the fudge!  Sure, most agents get hundreds of inquires per month of which maybe 2% are worth taking on, marketable. I have teamed up with one such management/agency company as a scout... I solicit you - If you make the mark, I recommend you to them, where you will be highly considered - Should you tick the boxes below? Please do email me directly if you do; scriptwriter.barryjohn@gmail.com for consideration.
- Minimal 3 years of screenwriting.
- Minimal 3 high concept feature/TV scripts.

A question I was asked, how much does it cost? Nothing! Like all managers/agents, they only earn a % on signing you up with a producer/investor, production company.

Unfortunately, not that many of us have 3 years of screenwriting and 3 high concept scripts.

Peter. You, not a bad screenwriter and you have a conceptual imagination... Deja-vu for Ice and Jen, and The bad screenwriter, are great stories! I'll come back to you soonest.

Best.

I'm a bit confused by "management/agency company" Barry because, at least in America, those are two separate roles and the rules they go by are different. Most working screenwriters in Hollywood therefore have both an agent and a manager.

I have a challenge for you, sir:  First, check my profile here to see where I'm coming from.  That is, I'm in the early stages of trying to become a producer - more likely EP - by trying to find attachments/financing etc. and then meeting up with a producer-of-record, finding co-pros, VFX, distribs, sales agents, the works.

My only interest in a rep these days is if s/he would like to help me get a few specific things to Spielberg as a hip-pocket deal; I have no chance to get that high up on my own.  And maybe one to Sir Ben Kingsley; I've tried, but the Asst. at his company said his slate was full.  I think somebody with more "oomph" could get what I have to him, as I already have a producer who's interested but awaits a package.  Kingsley of course would be the cherry in any package.

So you get what I mean.  "Hip Pocket"?  (For those who don't know, that's a one-off deal with a rep, versus full representation on the writer and his/her work as a whole.)

Note: I've posted this here, instead of a PM, because it's useful to see how many different places we're all coming from, here at ScriptRevolution.

I think it would help, a lot, if Barry posted the name of the company because I've never heard of a scout for screenwriters. Actors and models, sure, but those are usually scams. I'm sorry, I just find it very hard to believe a legit management or agency doesn't require a screenwriter to have credits. If they don't have the potential to make money, there's nothing to take a percentage of, if you see what I mean.

Hi all. Yes, Steven, well put ... I've posted this here, instead of a PM, because it's useful to see how many different...

That's the beauty of forums - collective views and opinions on a particular subject. Let me put you in the picture as to my involvement here. I met the owner of the management/agency through a screenwriters form. We got chatting, and she inquired about my role as a competition reader/analyst, and that I also offer this service in my personal capacity. Long story short I recently joined their website in the interest of a collaboration that better serves the client. A one-stop-shop if you like? Script management - agency - reader - analyst, on one platform - website. Some of my clients are really great screenwriters, not just in their script, but they themselves as a screenwriter with a unique voice. If I feel this client has great potential - worthy of a manager and or agent? I pass this client on to my "neighbour", who likewise may have a client that has potential, but needs "polishing", and, they'd send this client to me. Now here are two clients of ours that have what it takes to break into this cruel industry! These two screenwriters may never have seen the light of day after being pushed around and rejected by managers, agents, and analyst.

Whilst the company has the skill set... they new. I'm a member of a good few screenwriting forums, of which I know many great screenwriters that have what it takes to be represented. It's these screenwriters I seek "scout" for the company to consider. Hence this post of mine. Sending you to them, you have nothing to lose that you may have already by other managers, agencies that YOU approached, unsolicited! I'm simply putting my foot in the door for you - soliciting you.

We know all too well how management and agencies are bombarded with hundreds of inquiries per month... it's for this reason that I withhold their particulars. They don't want all those emails: "Hi, I saw Barry's post on SR, S32, SS, etc. Have a look at my great scripts..."

You all ask valid questions to which are answered on their website, and or will be answered directly via email/phone call. I don't have the answers to these questions. Script Revolution is a niche site of mainly great screenwriters, as opposed to other sites that have more aspiring writers seeking advice. That said, I'll see if the company wish to directly introduce themselves to you - SR. I'll let you known hereto.

Many reps and producers are concerned about their identity here, even in as great a place such as this.  I'm pretty certain that they never have to reveal themselves on the Blacklist, for example.

They might come here if they could use a pseudonym to protect their privacy, yet this place has been built so that if they download stuff we're sent a notice of that - one of our priorities as writers.

I've wondered why they don't just get a company Assistant to register here, and even keep their profile sparse so we don't really know what they do - and apparently that's okay with CJ Walley.  I'd even be okay if the reps/producers themselves then "used" their Assistants' logins - but I'm sure that isn't okay with CJ!

But when I first read Barry's original post, I thought that's exactly the kind of thing his cohorts were up to - using an insider in a totally legit manner.  Hey, it's better than no presence at all, and suggests that they've "heard" about this ScriptRevolution thing and are worried about missing out on some good stuff!

I use my ScriptRevolution profile link in all my emails, LinkedIn, etc.   Now, if only all of those individual producers and contacts have enough Assistants, everything would be great!  (ha ha)

However, I do hope that, if we start to receive contacts from higher-ups, we can somehow loop it back to SR so that CJ gets his due.

I am going to reach out and clarify the situation for myself. Thank you Barry for keeping an eye out for the group. I always feel bad when I slag off writing consultants etc because I know you do good work and provide helpful advice. Unfortunately you are good apple in an orchard of poison apples.

Thanks again.

Some do it this way on SR. It varies. Recently had a manager sign up and also ask all their clients to get listed here. Some embrace it more than others.

CJ - I have certainly seen this. More than a couple of times when I checked the bio of someone who downloaded a script - they were a producer or an agent - just not named specifically - which, is exactly what I would do if I were then.

Hi all.

LSB, Lisa Simpson, does not wish to part take in forum conversations. I've assured her that SR and its members are unlike other "aspiring screenwriter" sites -  we all here (at least those that commented hereto) are seasoned screenwriters - all worthy of representation. "Scout-out". You all welcome to contact her direct;  LS Book Services, LLC  [Agent services]

Yeah, I know Lisa had a rough time on Stage 32 but she's welcome to post here. I know she reps at least one SR member. I also appreciate this is a relatively new venture for her.

Ohh, now I get it. She's a book agent AND a screenwriter manager.

Eric, in publishing, they're called agents. Screenwriting, managers. Confusing, yes. So, she's both, for two industries. That might be why she's had a hard time at Stage32.

Well, that's not quite right. In film there are agents and managers. In publishing there are merely agents. And in regard to film there are separate sets of guidelines you're supposed to follow depending on whether you are an agent or manager.

Now if you don't wish to be a WGA signatory or work with WGA writers, then perhaps it's okay to call yourself a screenwriting management/agent, however conflating and confusing it will prove to be in Hollywood.

As much as you can take the horse to the water... you can't make the horse drink.

Sure, Lisa, LS BOOKS is more a professional book editor and publisher, than a screenplay manager/agent. And in her years of experience and contacts... for all in assisting authors to meet screenwriters to rewrite their novel to script... she's focusing her attention to the reverse, as well. Hell, she may even turn your script into a best selling novel? Either way, as new as she may be to screenplay/writing management/agency - she has the resources and contacts. Do you?

If you sceptical of her ability? Then don't contact her! leave it be - simple, ain't it.

I agree she's doing something new, and now that I have a better understanding, I don't think she's doing anything wrong. I also don't get the impression she's registered with WGA. I'm not, many aren't, and still getting things done.

No need to get defensive, Barry, I'm not impugning Lisa's motives or abilities (as I'm unfamiliar with them). But I believe I've identified a legitimate point of confusion and potential problem for her.

You're mocking Eric but someone calling themselves a manager and an agent in a film capacity is a huge issue legally. I strongly suggest this is all cleared up fast.

I'm currently seeking representation/production partnership of my screenplays, short scripts, audio drama podcasts.

Below are my Author bio, literary and present talent accomplishments

Author Bio

Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Chimezie, pen name 'Mr Ben' was the first born of four siblings, two brothers and a sister, their mother sadly passing away in 2022.

His primary and secondary school education finishing after A levels, (in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics) followed by further tertiary education was in Lagos, an ever hustling and bustling city, which contributed considerably to his wide reaching life and survival skills. This man's artistic journey is a story of survival, and his determination and persistence to be heard shines through his work like a lamp in the darkest cave.

As a child, Mr Ben always imagined he would, one day, become a published writer, poet, essayist, playwright, novelist and narrator. As an adult, three decades later, living alone with an incredible work rate and positive outlook, Mr Ben's efforts to make ends meet in an incredibly poor and difficult environment has earned our respect and aeh management signed him in 2023 to support him realise his life ambitions and appropriate rewards for his vision, talent, diligence and humility.

In his own words "In a nation where practically everything seem to be collapsing over time, I have taken it upon myself to transcend the bar of complacency: a rampant decision among most young people in Nigeria."

After literally hundreds of rejections for almost eight years, commendably he has become the published author he has always dreamed of becoming. He went on to turn his publications into screenplays and short scripts into audio drama podcasts.

Besides being an avid reader and writer, his personal interests and areas of work include animal care, essential food services, AI, alien life, and human empowerment.

Chimezie has congenital CFA, (craniofacial anomalies), a diverse group of deformities in the growth of the head and facial bones and has faced a lifetime of unkind human interaction which has only strengthened his will to succeed and ours too; his management.

Mr Ben said "Despite being born facially deformed and consequently having to endure the trauma of being looked down on by society (neighbours, schools I attended, even the churches I was once a member of) during my formative years, I summoned the courage to press on ahead with the burning ambition of becoming useful to myself and society. There was no finance to even see myself basically at the time. But through years of endurance and determination, I was able to pull through my painful childhood and hold onto my imagination of being a published writer and furthering myself in the only way I knew how, expressing myself, speaking, poetry & writing".

Mr Ben's various works are diverse and captivating and "a more than worthwile read", "challenging and thought provoking", "an incredibly enjoyable listen", "writes with pain, heart and soul".
